The video El festejo sketches a portrait. The leitmotif and structuring element is an African-Peruvian rhythm representing cultural interrelations. The festejo, a syncopated rhythm, is played with two instruments. The cajón provides the base rhythm, whose intervals are punctuated by the bongos, finding their own motif. The dialectical structure of festejo finds a correspondence in a mixed-race woman’s account of experiences in China and memories of her Chinese ancestors. The two-track rhythm is a metaphor for a life within different cultures. While she appears in fragments, images of a Chinese domestic interior complete her portrait.

Installation of 100 glazed stoneware objects

The ceramic works All My Colours were conceived as an experiment, in search of new colors, different surfaces and glazes. The forms were developed to understand the behavior of the glaze on uneven shapes. Started as a pragmatic necessity to discover and create glazes through the artist’s own mixtures, it developed into an archive of material possibilities, oscillating between object-paintings and methodic experiments, while resembling the ancient tradition of Chinese ceramic and pottery.
