The title refers to a type of secret script that emerged during the 3rd century in Hunan, China. This is the only writing system in the world created and used exclusively by women, at a time when the practice known as “lotus feet”—the practice of binding women's feet—was common, and educational opportunities were limited for women. The script and the presented objects from the artists’ family archives, survived several generations, as they were passed on from mothers to daughters, as a strategy of resistance to the patriarchal society. It is the interest, as a collective of woman artists of the Chinese diaspora in Costa Rica, to address the subject of migration from a matrilineal perspective.
